I was wildly impressed with the quality of this machine. All of the functions are intuitive and simple, and it is ready to go right out of the box. I really love it, and haven’t experienced a single problem! Not to mention that it is very compact and aesthetically pleasing. I know it was the perfect machine for me, so I recommend it to all of you.

It works well and is very versatile for the price. I was able to use upholstery thread on canvas to make a hammock and it actually did the job. An all around nice inexpensive machine.

This is the first time I have ever sowed and so far things are going great with my new Brother. The manual is real simple to read and gives you step by step procedures on everything. In addition, this is a great sowing machine to start off with simple to use and friendly to operate, and everything you need is included.

I am not an experienced seamstress and I don’t need advanced functionality, but I love this sewing machine. It weights next to nothing compared to my old one, and it is very easy to use. Good user guide.
If there is anything negative I could say it would be that I can’t use my old bobbins on a Brother machine. For some reason they have chosen to create different size bobbins than most other sewing machines and I can’t buy them in the store nearby (I like to have one for each basic color).

This machine is lightweight, easy to use, and the instruction manual is excellent. I am a novice and mainly use the machine for repairs and very easy projects. The reason I bought the computerized machine is that it selects the stitch length & width automatically. It can be changed if you want but it doesn’t have to be set by you. I am very happy with this purchase.

I am worse than a novice, I have never used or even touched a sewing machine before, this was my first. I bought it because of the price and the other reviews. I can’t believe how easy it was to set up. The detailed book that comes with it is wonderful. I had no problem getting it set up and making my first stitches. I am extremely happy with my purchase. Now, I don’t know if this machine would be wonderful to a seasoned sewer? But for a beginner like me, I could not have asked for something better to get me started.

I haven’t used a sewing machine since 8th grade Home Economics class, but I’d been wanting to take it up again. I purchased this machine because I heard Brother was a great brand, and the price was really good. Within 15 minutes, I was sewing! This machine is easy to use, with really detailed, easy to follow instructions. I love it!

Excellent machine – for all skill levels
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this machine as a substitute to my grandmother’s heirloom Singer. I had some hesitation with a machine that was computerized because I’m very accustomed to the standard knob and dial machines. Overall this is a great piece of equipment.
Advantages: Great manual, it will tell you how to do almost everything you’d like to do with the machine. Numerous accessories, several feet, bobbins, and other standard sewing pieces come courtesy of Brother. The ease of switching feet, the automatic threader (which, not to be misleading, you still have to manually wind the thread through the machine, this model comes with an arm that pulls the thread through the needle for you – hence the name). The drop-in bobbin. Goes through most fabrics readily, including double and triple folded materials (with exception of some sturdier fabrics – i.e. leather). One of the quietest motors I’ve ever worked with. Easy to trouble shoot.
Disadvantages: You can only use the bobbin model that comes with the machine, it won’t accept any other kinds. The dome light is very dim. The machine also tends to be overly sensitive to you manually poking around. When I first turned on the machine I nudged the needle, to which the LED display immediately flashed an E6 warning (that was an easy fix, I just turned it off then back on). To get all the stitch functions it take some time getting used to the four control buttons. Which, again, not to be misleading the “77″ stitches are variations of 35+ standard ones. I also didn’t understand I hadn’t wound the bobbin thread all the way through either, it resulted in terrible tension control during my first project. You may be trouble shooting a lot until you get to used to the machine. But the majority of the time the problems are simple and once fixed you’ll never have that problem again.

Fantastic Machine for a Rookie Sewer and More Advanced Seamstresses
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am a beginning sewer, but can already tell that this is a heavy-duty machine that will do many great things- There are lots of features I love about it, and the computerized functions and stitch settings are common sense and very easy to use- everything you need is in the right spot and easily manipulated while sewing, like the presser foot detacher, etc. I really like the auto-button sewing function and buttonhole foot that automatically sews the right hole- I have a children’s wall art business, but am so motivated to sew by this machine that I stay up well into the night to do some outfits- Since December, I have used it a lot and it has had no problems, except for the thread getting extremely tangled inside the machine- I took it apart and cleaned it out and think it happened b/c I tried to use a different bobbin- same size but DO NOT try that!!! I think there are specific grooves on the bobbins included with this machine- I got this when Amazon had a $25 off $200 deal so got a really great deal- This machine is worth a lot more than it is priced and I recommend it for anyone doing medium- to heavier duty projects. It handles multiple layers fairly well- even a few layers of denim, so can do many home and clothing projects- Have fun sewing!!

Who’s telling the truth?
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
It really defeats the purpose of the reviews if they are not from confirmed purchasers of the product, don’t you agree? This seems like any easy thing to address. It would certainly be more useful and helpful.
I am very frustrated by the reviews-especially the ones by PLEIN JANE, for example. SHE HAS REVIEWED 3 DIFFERENT MACHINES, and HER STORIES DON’T ADD UP.
How many REVIEWERS are just plants?
I don’t own this machine: I am shopping. I really want a new machine, but I don’t know where to get reliable info .

A good purchase

I had prayed and decided to go with this machine, even though there are other pricier models around. I needed to make window treatments for our house, since it would too expensive to have them custom made. The machine does the job beautifully. I have not had the chance to use all of the stich functions. The most basic stich works for me so far. The machine works very reliably. The tension is the only thing that has to be adjusted when sewing thicker fabric. Overall I am pleased with this purchase and am glad that I did not pay a fortune for it.

I am a beginner at sewing, so i’m a little confused but all in all it was a great purchase especially for the price and quality!

Don’t let the low price fool you! This machine is great!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have owned this machine since Mother’s Day 2005. I have not had a minute’s trouble with it. In fact, I prefer it over my Bernina 1090! It has so many features you would expect to pay thousands of dollars for! I thought I would never be able to afford a machine that did all this. The best part is, this machine comes complete with absolutely everything you can buy for it–there are no extra feet to buy, etc., because this includes everything you need.
One night just for fun I worked through the entire instruction book. It is without a doubt the best and most complete manual I have ever gotten with a sewing machine. I was able to master every stitch function and attachment in one very pleasant evening. You really don’t need another machine. The feet are plastic, which is GREAT–you can see through them. There is nothing cheesy about the parts–they all work exactly as they should. I am crazy about my machine, and its support materials. So crazy, in fact, that I recently bought the Brother serger here on Amazon, and it is just as good. GREAT machines. Why spend more? Buy this inexpensive machine and you’ll have lots more money to spend on FABRIC!!

But…I sew ALOT. I get very frustrated when a needle bends or breaks. And I seem to be going through alot of needles. I keep my machines clean and oiled. This one seems to be for light things and for pretty things. But if you are going to do a good bit of heavy sewing I do not recommend this machine. But for light sewing, use of the embroidery stitches(the best feature for the price)or occasional mending I love it.

Don’t bother!

I bought this machine on 17 February 2007 and packaged it for return on 6 March. At first, it worked like a gem, the instructions were easy to understand, and I completed 2 garments using it. But then on the third garment, the fabric started bunching up and the thread kept getting caught on the bottom, and I kept receiving “E6 tangled thread” error messages. I took the bobbin case apart, cleaned it with the little brush and then attempted to replace the bobbin case. I could never get it back in properly. I tried everything, changed needles, tension, stitches, etc, followed all the suggestions on Brother’s website and still couldn’t get it to work. I called Brother’s customer service the next day and the person took me through all the steps again and was only able to get about 4 inches of stitces before it crapped out on me again. Even though the machine was still under warranty, her only suggestion was that I take it to the service center, 150 miles away. Fortunately, Amazon has agreed to refund my money and I have decided to have my old Singer fully serviced, as it will be a much more reliable machine in the long run. Don’t waste your money on these little cheapo models, you’ll spend more time messing with breakdowns then sewing.

Bobbin issues!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have had my “BROTHER” for 2 years now and it really does not hold up to a large amount of use. The Bobbin is always snagging and the stitches can look just fine and then for a couple of inches be skipped and missed (again a bobbin problem)…YUK! I am in the market for a new machine that is for sure!!! Trust me this is not a cleaning issue this is a mechanical issue. If you are going to do alot of sewing, I suggest SOMETHING ELSE!

A good machine…when it works
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I am a complete beginner and have had lots of fun with my machine and am totally hooked on sewing. However, in the 3 months I have had it it has been sent away twice with alignment and various other problems with the bobbin case and motor. I am really disappointed. One person who looked at it thought that I had been sewing fabrics that were took thick; I have been making bags that have two layers of fabric and a layer of interfacing, but even given the price, I feel that the machine is not value for money if it cannot cope with this. Overall, when it works it is a great machine – maybe I have been really unlucky – but I am not sure I would buy it again.

Brother ES2000 Sewing Machine – had to return it the next day
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I just bought this machine and was very excited. I unpacked it and was planning to sow a bed skirt. I never got the tension to work and the straight stitches were very uneven. After a while it stopped working at all since the thread kept getting tangled on the bottom. I received the E6 error message telling me that the thread was tangled. After struggling for a while and my husband trying to figure out what was wrong, I decided to put it back in the box and returned the machine the next morning.

delightful machine, super easy to use
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This machine is very similar to the popular CS 6000 that’s sold both here in Amazon and in Walmart. In fact they both use the same manual. The difference between the 2 are: CS6000 has an start/stop button so you can operate the machine w/o foot pedal, quilting accessories such as walking foot and larger table extension, needle up/down button, faster bobbin winding, 2 speeds, a hard cover and some extra fancy stitches. I don’t care about these missing features. I sewed my own cloth cover using left over fabric. To me this little machine has all the functionality that I ever wanted from a sewing machine. All the utility stitches are there – sewing buttons and button holes (1-step), zippers, elastic, overlock, zig zag, satin, blah blah blah – everything you need to sew a dress or a pillow case, plus more. If you quilt a lot buy the CS6000 one. Threading is super easy because the direction is printed right on the machine. The automatic needle threader is very helpful. I use it every time. My only complaint is that the thread tends to slip out of the needle hole unless I leave a very long “tail”. This happened w/ CS6000 too when I tried it at a friend’s house. With both models you can specify if the needle is left up or down when sewing stops. Both needs no oiling (probably mostly plastic parts?) I haven’t sewed very heavy fabric yet. The LED light is very dim but cool. You definitely need a real lamp nearby. You can leave the machine on for a long time because the light uses very little energy. If you do turn it off, all the custom stitch settings will be lost (no memory). So far I am very happy with this machine.

I bought this machine for my wife. She had a reliable Singer machine for over 30 years but it was very limited in its ability to make more than simple stitches. After prolonged use over a short period of time this past year, the Singer “gave up the ghost”. My wife is delighted with this machine’s ability to do many, many stiches and buttonholes and all the features that she did not have available to her on the Singer. We feel it is a “state of the art” example of sewing machines. Bill Joe Nix

ES 2000 sewing machine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic machine!!! It cost less than if I had bought it locally & it shipped FAST. It has plenty of functions–utility & decorative stitches & 4 built-in buttonholes–and comes with lots of accessories, including special presser feet. It’s easy to use (I’m a novice sewer). When you select the different stitches it tells you what presser foot you need, and the most common stitch length & width. It’s easy to adjust & you won’t go crazy trying to thread the machine. This is an excellent “first sewing machine”–it offers quality & versitility at a low price.

I just received my new Brother ES2000 yesterday (1-30-07) and I can not get over how easy it is to use. I do not have very much experience sewing but read others reviews of approx 50 sewing machines. I did end up purchasing the Brother ES2000 and am very happy with my purchase.
I was able to start sewing in about 20 minutes. My husband is shocked because now I actually want to hem his pants!
I am very impressed with how light the machine. My Aunt gave me a Singer machine that is about 50 years old and I can not even get the darn thing threaded. The Brother machine is wonderful!!! I will be making alot of projects that I could not bring myself to even think about before.

Didn’t last long: BAD service
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This was a fine machine until 2 months after the warranty ran out. Then I began to get a ERR 6 error. Cleared the thread, still no luck. I took the machine to a Brother certified service center. They advised they couldn’t find anything wrong, except that it didn’t work and could not help any further. They advised to return it to the manufacturer. When I called Brother, they advised my only alternative was to take it to another Factory Service Center. I did, same story. It appears that neither Brother or their Factory Service Centers care if their products stop working once the warranty runs out. That type of service I can do without. This one went into the trash, a $180 lesson in what brand NOT to buy. I don’t yet know what my replacement will be but it will absolutely not be a Brother.

I am having trouble setting the tension on the machine.
I wish the light over the sewing area were brighter.
The instruction book could be more instructive.
Should have one for each type of machine with different functions, such as bobbin winder, etc.
I will let you know later how it goes.
The tension is killing me, per say.

Love the sewing machine!! I’m an avid sewer and have been designing and making custom curtains. I wore out another different brand machine from so much use. Been using this machine for a few months and I find it to be very professional and dependable. I especially love the array of differnt stitches which add a unique finishing touch. Taught my 9 year old niece how to sew on this machine and she uses it with ease. Definately a machine that all sewing levels will appreciate.

2 1/2 stars if I could rate it that way
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this machine as it had a good price, and I wanted more variety of stiches, and some other modern features. My first project was a fleece baby bunting, but even though the fabric wasn’t very thick, it didn’t always seem to feed very well. And at the junction of seems where there were several layers, I had to “walk” it by hand (turn the wheel myslelf slowly for each stich.) And when I was inserting the zipper, I noticed the foot will be either on the right or left, but there is no way to set the distance from the zipper, like every other machine I have used. Zippers come in many different sizes!
My second project was to sew some clear vinyl covers for appliances. What a pain! It was just a medium weight vinyl I bought at the fabric store, but it kept sticking to the machine, and would barely feed at all. The stiches were very uneven, and there were big loops of thread in the seam. I finally gave up and got out my trusty old White sewing machine. That old girl sewed the vinyl like a dream.
I think the problem is that there’s no pressure regulator, which controls how much pressure there is on the pressure foot. And when I was basting on the fleeece fabric, the longest stich was pretty short. Again, if the foot had more pressure, it may have been different.
My review isn’t totally negative. I’m probably going to enjoy this machine with ordinary fabrics, and I’m sure I’ll have fun with the fancy stiches. Hopefully it will let me express my creativity. I wil defintely use the blind hemming, etc.. (My old machine only has straight and zigzag.) Threading was very easy, as was changing the zipper foot and putting in the bobbin. Not having to oil it will be nice, and I like the long warranty. The manual was pretty clear. I’m sure this is a good choice for beginners, and many other sewers. But if you’re very experienced like I am and used to being able to adjust your machine to the task you’re doing, you might be as frustrated as I was. I don’t think I’ll even try it with denim or canvas, unless it’s just one seam. I wonder how it will handle something like slippery silk. I think it was worth the price I paid, but glad I’ve kept my sturdy old White machine too.

Wonerful sewing machine! I haven’t sewn in over 20 years and wanted to make curtains for my kitchen. Arrived in record time, in excellent condition and the instructions are extremely easy to follow. I was hesitant about the computerized aspect, but it is very simple—just push a button and maybe change the presser foot—depending on type of stitch desired. I highly recommend this machine for anyone who sews.

my new brother…best sibling ever
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
i near pounced on my brown santa when he brought my package (aka UPS guy), and boy am i happy. I’ve never sewed so this was a big investment for me. It’s a great size, very pleasing to the eye and all the little accessories are cool, once i figure out what to do with them.
For a complete beginner the instructions were horrible. The manual is for many brother products, so i didn’t know which section to follow… (e.g do i have a fast wind bobbin? automatic needle threader thing? i had no idea…) and I’m still working out the thread tension. For beginners like me, take your time, read the thing over and over and play with it a while.
The machine itself is great, I already made curtains for my bed and my athlete boyfriend gave it a try. For the price, it’s really unbeatable…especially if you look at the price it originally retailed at.It’s not too heavy which is great, and the lcd screen controls the stitch width and you can plug in what stitch you want. I went to Stitches on capitol hill (Seattle) and the owner had bought a whole bunch of this particular model for her customers to use. Guess it’s a good sign.
