Love this item that I received for Christmas. I am having a problem getting the automatic needle threader to work but I have not been able to spend too much time with it since I just got it. Will have many hours of enjoyment with this machine.

Very disappointed. I am a seamstress & neither time did the automatic buttonhole maker work. It’s computerized so no part to replace, it just ruined 3 different coats I was making. The stitch was wrong, didn’t go the right direction, VERY hard to fix a messed up button hole, hard to rip. Very frustrating. Got a refund, new replacement sent only to have an even worse button hole. UGH

My bad luck or faulty product?? If you don’t SHIR (which it also won’t do well at all) or make button holes, then go ahead, this machine is fine for the price. If you need all the features to work, avoid it.

I was just starting out as a sewer so I got this machine becasue it “appeared” to do a lot for the money. It is ok as far how it works its nice to have the all the stitches but it is very load sounds like it is breaking (in fact I thougth it was and it was just a bad machine until I heard that is common with brothers) it also DOES NOT EMBROIDERY… do not believe that. also you cant really go past med speed or it starts acting up. look else were because in 6 months you will be better then the machine can do.

I have been a quilting instructor for years and a few years ago I was researching for a good machine to use in my classes with certain specifications: easy to use and transport, dependable and durable. So when I was visiting a local quilt shop during a class, I asked if there was an affordable machine the quilters would recommend. I figured they would know if anyone did! :) Unanimously, the Brother CS6000i was the recommendation. So I asked my hubby for this machine as a gift and he purchased it for me. I’ve had it over two years now and I have enjoyed it immensely; a really great experience all around. I have many machines (industrial machines, featherweight(s)to high-end Bernina’s and this machine is everything I hoped for: needle-down/buttonhole stitch/easy bobbin winder/multiple speeds/lightweight… I could go on and on. I’m still amazed at the great price it was and I use it at class and at home now. I do highly recommend using good thread… if you are making something and spending the time and effort, good thread is worthwhile! Good thread is not overly expensive and your product is only as good as your materials. Bottom line: amazing machine for the price and I recommend it to new students confidently and often.

I received this machine about a month and a half ago.I didn’t have alot of money to spend but needed a better machine for quilting. I went through the reviews and made my choice. I am so glad I choose this machine. I know it’s been only a short time but it works wonderful. I’m not sure what some of these people are doing but I haven’t had any trouble with threading the bobbin or the needle threader.Obviously they are doing something wrong. I never had a computerized machine before and I thought it was very easy to learn. I do quilting and the different stitches make projects easier. I have had no problems with the thread bunching up. The option of not having to use the foot pedal is great. I particularly like the needle up/down option. So far all and all I think the machine is great for the money.

I read reviews before buying this machine. I sewed on a borrowed Kenmore machine for about a year before finally buying my own – this Brother machine. What sold me on it was that most reviewers said it performed well and came with extra feet and attachments. I sew on the machine about 3 hours a day, about 5 days per week. It is a fantastic machine. It sews smoothly. It is easy to maintain and clean. The baseplate slides off and the bobbin holder pops out for easy lint removal. The extra feet and various things that come with the machine, including the big extension table piece, are fantastic. I love having all the feet to use. Sewing is easy. Threading is easy. The extra buttons and things are very usable. I couldn’t be happier and would definitely recommend this machine.

I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS SEWING MACHINE. IT’S ACTUALLY MY FIRST MACHINE AND I COULDNT DECIDE IF I SHOULD PURCHASE IT OR NOT BUT AFTER READING ALL THE REVIEWS, I MADE UP MY MIND TO BUY AND HAVENT REGRET IT YET!!!! I’M A BEGINNER SEWER SO I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT A SEWING MACHINE… AFTER I REVIEWED THE MANUAL AND HOW TO OPERATE THE MACHINE- IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EASY TO LEARN HOW TO SEW!!!! I’VE SEW MY FIRST TISSUE PACK HOLDER, DRAWSTRING BAG AND CLOTH NAPKINS. IF I CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN DO IT!!! THE MACHINE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EASY TO USE AND CHANGE THREADS AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE AUTOMATIC THREADER AND THE DROP-IN BOBBIN. THE TENSION DIAL IS ALITTLE TRICKY TO GET USE TO BUT ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND HOW TO DETERMINE WHEN TO CHANGE THE DIAL TO GET THE RESULTS YOU ONE, IT’S A PIECE OF CAKE. I ALSO LOVE HOW EASY IT IS TO CHANGE THE DIFFERENT SEWING FOOTS. BROTHERS REALLY THOUGHT IT ALL OUT WHEN THEY CREATED THIS MACHINE ESPECIALLY FOR BEGINNERS WHO LITERALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER LIKE ME!!!! I’D DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO LEARN HOW TO SEW AND OR CONTINUE TO SEW- IT’S GOT 60 DIFFERENT STITCHES THAT I MAY NEVER USE THEM ALL BUT JUST TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEM IS SOOOOOO NEAT!!!!

When I ordered this machine there were, not one, but two sewing machines in the bottom of a closet. (I don’t sew a lot now-a-days) But….’Oh my gosh!’ Senior Prom’s coming up!! Got to make a gown..my daughter likes to differ from the norm…and you guessed it. I needed a machine that worked, but also one that I didn’t need “Sewing for Dummies” help with. At this writing, I’m still working on the dress but having fun doing it. Of course, I keep the manual at the ready but rarely need it.

Don’t let the low price fool you. This is a great machine!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This machine represents the most incredible value-for-money on the market today. It is very, very easy to use, and the manual is exceptionally helpful. It comes with every foot and accessory you could ever possibly need. In fact, there is nothing more you can buy for it. Compare that to the other sewing machine manufacturers, which give you only the most basic feet and then you must purchase everything else separately. If you have been hankering for the convenience of fully computerized sewing, automatic needle threading, push-button sewing, and lots of fun stitches, don’t hesitate. I highly recommend this machine. I’ve owned very expensive machines from all the top manufacturers, and would not recommend it if the stitches were not beautiful or if it were loud or junky. This was given to me as a gift (I’m ashamed to say I would probably have walked right past it because of its low price) and I love it so much, I have gone on to buy the Brother serger here on Amazon, and also a $999.00 Brother Innovis, which is another tremendous bargain. I was really pleased to see that even the more expensive machine uses the same bobbins and feet as this one, and this has many of the same features. This $200 machine comes iwth virtually all the same attachments as the $1000 one.

This is the machine that some of the larger sewing and quilting expos are using in their workshops now because they are so lightweight, easy to learn, and reliable. High end Berninas and Vikings are just too complicated for people to sit down and learn at in a classroom setting, and they are way too expensive. This machine is the Featherweight of the 21st century, with tons of stitches and fun built in. Go for it!!!

It took me a little bit to get used to this new machine. The stitch memory can actually be a pain when you want to do a different stitch. However, as I learn more about the machine the more I love it. It is easy to use and easy to learn. it is easy to thred the bobbins and the machine. It has a wonderful amount of stiches and back stitching is super easy. I dont like the lever for raising the foot though. I worry that I will break it because it doesnt seem sturdy. Everything else is great though. Its very light weight and I love the attachment to make the base wider.

Brother CS6000I 60-stitch computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple Stitch Functions

I am an avid quilter and this (the BrothersCS6000I) is the second

identical machine I have purchased. I originally bought it because I did not want to carry my Viking machine back and forth to our winter home. I was so pleased with the initial purchase, I bought another to take to quilting classes because it is so light weight, has an excellent sewing stitch, as well as a walking foot, freemotion quilting function, needle up/down and the decorative stitches–which all work. The price is certainly right!

Features and quality are good values for the price. As a friend put it, I could wear out several of these by the time I purchased a high end brand. Since the machine has all the functions I need, comes with useful accessories, the instructions are clear, and the quality is good, I’m happy.

I think this is a great machine and buy for the money. The problem I had was with the tension on the dog feeds or bobbin. The machine would drop stitches whenever I tried to use any stitch other than staight…even zig zag stitches did not look right. I called Brother several times and tried their suggestions. They advised me to return the machine. I even called the closest service center, which is 60 miles away, and they wanted to keep the machine a week if I brought it to them. BUT, I had to have a receipt with the serial number on it and Amazon does not put serial numbers on their invoices.

    Great Sewing Machine!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This sewing machine way exceeds my expectations. I have been sewing for 40+ years and have had 4 other “quality” sewing machines; high end Singers and my last was a White purchased 15 years ago. Since this machine was so inexpensive I was expecting to brace myself for less quality. I was afraid it would be too light and cheaply made. I really didn’t think much of Brother though I had read positive reviews on this machine. I picked this machine because of budget constraints and generally not sewing enough these days to justify a bigger investment. What a surprise I got when I received this machine (I could not view or demo it in a store). I am seamstress – not a quilter. The button holer is great and easy to use. The idea of sewing without a foot pedal is great for certain applications. The control buttons (fwd, back, up needle) are easy to use. The thread cutter is more conveniently located than any machine I’ve ever had. I have sewn on many macines in my life so it was easy to sit down and just start sewing. I think a new sewer would find it easy too. Everything seems better and more convenient than my previous machines. I’ve only had 2 speed machines. I find having 3 speeds on this machine is great as I want to sew on the med. speed most times.

In response to other reviews. I think it sews great on paper. The 1st project I sewed was a book mark with card stock sandwiched in hand made paper (3 layers). I had no tension issues in contrast to my previous machine. Since the machine was working so well I decided to make a semi-formal dress for my daughter layering sheer fabrics. Once again – no problems with tension.

I think if you are constrained to spend less than $200 for a machine this is a great little machine and you won’t be disappointed.

As a note: the hard cover that comes with it does not attach so if you plan on travelling with the machine you might want to buy the extra cover. The included cover goes over the machine and does not clip on. By grabbing the machine’s handle the cover comes with as you carry it. This is fine for in-house storage.

Buying your first machine? Make it THIS ONE!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Like everyone else reading these reviews, this is how I ultimately chose and bought this machine-so I hope this review helps you make a choice too! It seems like every machine I looked at though had several really negative reviews (some had more than others-but the really positive reviews for this one is what eventually convinced me-so I just want to add to it!) and probably like you it made me really nervous!-the only thing I can say about that is that any product on the market has a certain number of duds (errors in the manufacturing)-in which case all you can do is return it in the allowable time. By the way-this is why I buy all of my appliances/electronics with my American Express card-they will give you your money back on any purchase (up to like $1000) if it’s lost, stolen or broken (even if it’s your fault it broke or the kids drop it!) within 90 days. I’m not sure if this is a benefit for all AMEX cards (though I’ve heard it is) so just check with your customer service …ANYWAY… sorry about the tangent.

It really is the best buy for what you get: this EXACT SAME model is selling on [...] for $[...]! So truly don’t let the low price fool you, it really is a more expensive machine selling for super cheap right here on amazon. This has everything you need, and has room to grow as you become more experienced so you don’t have to go upgrade. Because I’m a beginner I first thought “I’ll just buy the $[...] one with 10 stitch options because I don’t know what all those stitches do anyway, and then if I really get into sewing that’s cheap enough that I’ll upgrade in a year or two” I’m so glad I didn’t do that, I’m still just beginning but I can see how valuable having more stitch options is going to be and I’ve already started using some of them. (see below)

When I took it out of the box I started going through the user manual was sewing within the amount of time it took to wind the bobbin and thread the machine (the automatic threader took a couple tries but now it’s a breeze) In regards to the cheap thread thing: I actually went to a licensed BROTHER dealer in town and asked about it, and they said that MOST MACHINES STRUGGLE WITH CHEAP THREAD. So my following question was “Well, what is cheap thread?” and her response was “Like, when you get 5 spools for a a dollar or two” In any case I just bought my thread at a ‘real’ fabric store (not like wal-mart and such places that just happen to carry fabric too) and have not had any problems WHATSOEVER-no tension problems, no bobbin problems, nothing.

My absolute favorite feature is that when you change stitches the LCD display tells you what presser foot you need to attach for that stitch!!! You don’t have to refer to the user manual. It shows you the shape as well as what letter it is (J, G, M….etc. and each foot has the letter engraved on it). My second favorite thing is that because I don’t have a serger yet (maybe I don’t need one now!) in order to keep fabric from unraveling I’ve really enjoyed using the overcasting stitches with the overcasting presser foot-it’s so easy. I just trim seams down and then overcast (stitch #6 is what I use)-works just as well as a serger and saves me the $$$money$$$.

    Good luck and happy sewing!

I love my cs 6000i. I can sew anything on this machine. It’s cheap on Amazon but I bought mine on http://www.sewfastseweasy.com

It came with an instructional DVD, which was really helpful for me because I’m more of a visual learner. It also came with some patterns and fabric, so when It arrived I was ready to start sewing. It’s a wonderful machine!

I’m a beginner sewer and I have to say that I couldn’t be more pleased with my Brother CS6000i. I read thru the instructions first thing, which were very easy to follow and had understandable pictures to go with each step. I plug it all in and away I went with sewing my first tote.

Some of the features I really like are…the cover over the bobbin is see thru, so you can see exactly how much you have left(my MIL’s sewing machine doesn’t have this, so its a perk for me, since her’s was the first sewing machine i used).

Since I’m new to sewing I haven’t quite gotten a good feel for how much pressure to put on the foot pedal when I start sewing….(i tend to like to go sloooow) So being able to set the speed for the machine to slow and not have it go any faster no matter how hard i step on the foot pedal is a BIG plus for me.

I also like that you don’t have to step on the foot pedal to use reverse. You can just hold the button it and it’ll go on its own.

The LED light is nice and bright, letting you see just what you’re working on.

A few things that could use improvement.

It would be nice if the LCD screen was lite up….

The “storage compartment” is really just some empty space that just so happened to get labeled “storage compartment”. It would be better and more functional if it slide out like a drawer.

The cover that comes with the machine functions just as it should….but(and maybe this is just me) it would be nice if there was a little space in the styrofoam(there is a layer of ‘good’ styrofoam glued into the top of the cover) for a spool of thread, so that the cover can be put on the sewing machine while there is a spool on the spool pin.

Also maybe it just needs some more use…but my needle threader kinda gets stuck sometimes….and No, I’m not using thick thread or the wrong needle…

So far I haven’t used any of the fancy stitches…but I’ll get around to it. One thing that did impress me was how well the machine did when i put (medium/heavy weight) fabric that was folded three times thru it(handles for my tote). It didn’t have any problems going right over the thick fabric.

Overall I think this product is perfect for any beginner.

I bought this for the theatre department for my daughters high school. I wanted something that was easy to use and yet a little more than just “basic”. This machine is great! I got to use it for the weekend and I want to get one for myself. Changing the stitches is so easy and is sews very smooth. Love that you can control speed 3 ways, and easy to thread also. Kids at school were able to sit right down and sew. Vig plus is the extra height on the foot if you are using thicker fabric, or multi layers, which they do with costumes. Great machine for the money!

I bought this machine based on the good review written here. It is not worth the money. It is VERY picky about thread. The bobbin jams CONSTANTLY. I have broken every needle that came with it. I am an experienced sewer and was only sewing two cotton-blends together. The bobbin-case was scratched and was causing the jamming (according to the manual) so I bought two new ones at $35 each. With literally the first gingerly stitch with a new case, it snapped the neede in two. Today, after using up every needle I had, I still am nowhere near the end of my simple and lightweight project because the bobbin keeps jamming, for NO REASON. It was a total waste of money and I am really angry that I fell for it. I have another Brother machine with the same problem, different model. THEY ALL HAVE DEFECTIVE BOBBIN CASES!!!! KEEP AWAY!!!!

I’m extremely happy with this machine. It’s smart and easy to use overall. I had a little trouble figuring out how to use the fast bobbin winder and quick-set bobbin features from the manual instructions alone. However, once I figured it out, it’s fabulously easy. Contrary to what a few other reviewers say about the machine being cheaply made, I find it well put together and sturdy.

    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this machine 8 months ago and loved loved loved it- I was so delighted at the price and used it on a couple of projects. Best of all it was so light that storage wasn’t a problem.

Sadly, shortly after it’s 6 month anniversary, it stopped working. There was squeaking, followed by beeping, followed by nada. I had to drive it 2 hours to the nearest Brother center (or take it to an unauthorized shop and pay $100). The bobbin had stopped turning. The truth is, this machine is built on a plastic (actually it’s stuffed with styrofoam) chassis, which will not last, and is prone to breaking. So all these reviews you see where people give it one star, it’s because the plastic frame just can’t stand up to real use for very long.

A metal chassis sewing machine is one of the few pieces of technology that still lasts you your whole life. You can’t get a good one for under $399 at a store (like a Brother or Baby Lock)- but when you think that half the price gets you 6 months and a load of grief with a machine like this…?

I am sad to be giving this little machine one star, but the truth is Brother makes some great machines and some junky ones. Bottom line, you should get a machine with a metal chassis, not plastic, with your hard earned cash, because once this one breaks, there’s no returning it. I traded mine in at the shop.

Brother CS6000I 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple Stitch Functions

I recently purchased the Brother CS60001 sewing machine and it works beautifully. My old singer was a great machine but I was unable to purchase a walking foot so this prompted me to buy a new machine. I am very pleased with it. I did find that as other customers had suggested to read the instruction book and had to really concentrate on how to wind new thread on the bobbin. I would also like to complain about the purchase of extra bobbins that I ordered from Action Packaged, Inc. I ordered the bobbins and was charged $29.00 plus shipping. My bill was for over $41.00 for 10 bobbins that probably didn’t weigh 1 oz. I attempted to return them and was told that I would have to pay over $10.00 in shipping plus a 15% restocking fee. Don’t order the bobbins, you can find them at a local Brothers baby lock store for $.99 each and no shipping.

This is the best sewing machine I’ve ever used! I have been sewing for about 15 years on a basic (non-computerized) machine, which finally bit the dust. I kept an eye out for sales and specials to replace it, and this was the best deal, both in stores or on-line. The machine is extremely light to carry and yet is solid in durability. The other (very) nice thing is how quiet it is! I can’t wait for more sewing projects so I can utilize all the stitches and functions that it has.

I bought this machine online at amazon a few months ago and I love it! After ten years of suffering with a cheap machine that I bought at Walmart for $100, this thing has been a dream come true! No more struggling and fighting with the machine! I love to sew, but with my old machine I always ended up yelling and complaining – no problems yet with this one! I have already made several skirts with it, and just purchased a brother serger to compliment this machine. I am now a Brother sewing machine fan! This machine is so easy and simple to use. You will not regret it!

I did a lot of research before buying a new replacement for my beloved Janome. I read a lot of reviews on this machine and could not find a better deal for the features and extras. My dream machine would be a bernina and I thought I would have to wait years and years before I could get a sewing machine even close to it. But I did not wait long at all!!! This little machine is so easy to use I’m teaching my 5 and 6 year old girls how to quilt on it!! They love pushing the buttons for different stitches and they love that they don’t have to stretch to reach a foot petal!! I really think they have practiced enough now on it to start piecing their very own quilt! We are so excited! This is a great machine. Like others have stated, the light on it is regretably not nearly bright enough. But most people have lamps in the sewing room anyway. It also takes a different bobbin than what I have, but they are cheap so it’s not a big deal. I have had this machine for 2 or 3 days now and so far so good!! It also came rather quickly!! I ordered it monday morning and it was here after lunch on tuesday!! Plus, FREE shipping!! Anyway, I think this is a great machine for beginners or intermediate sewers/quilters. And Amazon has it for the best price!!

This computerized machine gives you a lot of the same features as the higher end machines (i.e. needle up/needle down, if you don’t want to use your foot pedal… you can use the stop/start button located on the front of the machine, clear top loading bobbin, needle threader and super easy bobbin winding. It has a large bed to fit quilts through and it comes with a walking foot and a table attachment to enlarge the working space (plus many other feet). The manual is so comprehensive yet easy to read. It even gives easy instructions for heirloom sewing techniques, etc. One of the best manuals I’ve seen come with a machine. I also own a high end Viking and a mid range mechanical Elna. I purchased this Brother CS 6000i computerized machine to have around while my Viking is occasionally in for service. Wow, makes me not miss my Viking so much. I’m going to recommend this machine to my relatives and friends who think they’d like an easy-to-use computerized sewing machine but can’t or don’t want to spend thousands on a machine. This is a great purchase!!!

I’ve only had this machine for about a month, but am very impressed by it’s ability to sew through denim. I was able to mend my husband’s jeans with no problems. I love the extended table and the automatic needle threader is a great feature. I was originally looking at more expensive Brothers, but after reading the stellar reviews here, and studying the features of each machine, this one is the greatest buy for your money!

I had never used a sewing machine before, and I’m glad that this was the first machine I ever used. I am just learning to quilt, and this machine has just been a breeze to use. While I’m figuring out that I’ll probably never use all of the fancy stitches that it offers, it’s nice that they’re there in case I need them one day. I found threading it to be a breeze, and I do love the needle threader on this machine. I haven’t had any problems with it at all.

Brother Deluxe Electronic Sewing Machine – CS6000iI have really enjoyed using this machine. Easy to get started with clear directions and illustrations. It is very light weight, I easily can lift with one hand to take to my quilting class. I includes many extras like a case, flat surface attachment and several feet for which most machines charge extra. I like the needle threader,it runs smooth and the stitches are easy to change with the chart on the machine front.

I bought this sewing machine last February after I read the reviews on Amazon and I thought that this will be good for easy sewing at home. I am a seamstress and I also have a very good sewing machine that I use constantly, this one I bought just for the different stitches. I haven’t even used it that much until last week when it broke down completely. It was probably defective from the start, (my husband fixes appliances and he looked at it and couldn’t believe how cheaply made this is) and thinks it had a problem from the start when I bought it. I am very disappointed with it because I’ve had problems constantly with the thread breaking in spite of doing everything right and using the right needles. If you don’t have the expensive good quality thread, good luck sewing with this one. I want to warn people that this is not as good of a deal as it looks like!

5 stars – for the money
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bottom line – it isn’t a $[...] machine and doesn’t sew like one, but it is enough like one to make the price feel like a big bargain!

I am a sewing machine junky, or so my husband says. I didn’t really need a new sewing machine last year, but my 8 year old wanted to start sewing. I had the $1000 machine and I had the older harder to use models. I needed something fairly cheap, but easy to use so that she could get her shot at things.

I researched fairly heavily and landed on the Brother CS6000I.

First, the machine was reasonably priced and came with tons of equipment. I like that I didn’t have to go buy a flat table for quilting or all the various feet involved with that. I also appreciate the hard cover that came with it.

Second, it is easy to use. The bobbin winding is well marked, as is the threading of the machine. Picking the right stitch is easy – and there are 60 to choose from (kind of sort of – arguably, there are only about 58 or so, but that is getting picky.) There is a speed control, which was great for DD since she could set things up to stitch slowly at first. The manual is readable, but still a sewing machine manual, so a bit limited in usefulness.

Third, it is lightweight – and easy to move around.

    OK – cons –

It doesn’t feel like there is as much room to the right of the needle as some of my other machines. I think it has to do with the shape of the body – the curve kind of eats into your space if you have half a queen sized quilt rolled up so you can stitch on it.

There isn’t much light, despite the fact that the brag about how bright the light is. However, I have a desk lamp set up to light the back of the machine and another on the left and I have all the light I want. It really isn’t a big deal.

It doesn’t have some stitches that I like – like a good blanket stitch for putting on binding. However, I have found other stitches that essentially do the same thing.

Anyway – I didn’t get my daughter to use it as much as I intended. But, I have made several quilts on it this year and have enjoyed it much more than I ever expected. The money was well spent and knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this machine again.

I bought this machine through [...] and I received it in less than a week! Their price was the same as Walmart’s in my area plus it qualified for free shipping. I have used it for two weeks now and love it. I was looking for a sewing machine (NOT a Singer) that I could use for quilting; on this machine the feed dogs will drop and it came with the walking foot, free motion foot and the extra table. I think it was supposed to include the 1/4″ foot but rather than try to get it through Amazon I bought it at a sewing store. Everything I have tried has worked on this machine. The only thing I would change is the light…it’s just not bright enough. I did alot of comparison shopping and read all the reviews and I think it is the best value for a machine of this caliber.

All in all I’m pretty pleased with this sewing machine. I’m still trying to figure out the quilting though. I’m having trouble using the free motion foot. When I try and do stippling, the stitches don’t catch. It will quilt fine for a while and then not catch the stitches. But I’m still working on that, so I may not have the machine set correctly. As far as sewing – it’s GREAT! The different stitches are wonderful. Overall, I’m very happy. Once I get the free motion quilting figured out, I will be 100% content with this machine, but right now, that is a big struggle. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, do you have any advise?

I also bought the universal carry case with it but decided to send it back (thanks Amazon for making that process very, very easy), the case was way too big for the machine. This machine does come with a cover that will work for me when I go to quilting class. Thanks again Amazon for making this purchase worth every dollar!!!

I got this machine to do some small projects. Its a great machine for the price, but anytime I want to sew more than 3 pieces of fabric together the machine beeps and refuses to sew. I have had this machine for about two months and recently the tension has been weird also. Don’t get me wrong, this machine is easy and fun to use, but sometimes it just doesn’t have enough strength to get the job done.

  53. T. Zielke Says:

Pros and Cons – You Decide
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought the machine for the price and the features, but I have to admit, I was nervous after reading some of the reviews that told about all the problems that they had right away. But I figured it had to be better than my 35-40 year old Kenmore. I want to state right away, I am very happy with my purchase thus far. I’ve had some problems (read below), but I have managed to figure some things out. But, if you are looking for a good machine to quilt, this machine has all the features you will need, and it’s priced so you can actually afford it. 2 other points to know, Amazon has a good return policy and from what I have heard, Brother has a good customer service history. These were 2 other deciding factors for me.

So here are my first impressions. I thought I was going to get a 1/4″ foot that is shown in the instruction manual. I didn’t. If it was supposed to be in the box, I’d love to hear from someone to let me know. I also read in the reviews that some people got a instructional DVD. I didn’t get this, but if I was supposed to get it, I’d like to get it. The hard cover does not allow you to keep the machine plugged in to use it, so it’s not going to be useful for me, except when I want to store it long term. I cover my machine whenever it’s not in use with a quilted cover that I made for my old machine. Luckily, it fits my Brother.

The instruction manual is very helpful. I followed it from front to back so that I could learn everything I could. When I finally got ready to test sew, the tension was really messed up. I worked at it for quite a while, referring back to the manual to adjust it correctly, but it just wouldn’t work! So I threaded the machine again, and took the bobbin out and made sure that I inserted it exactly as the book indicated, and magically, it worked. I think I must have did the bobbin wrong at first. Lesson 1, read the directions! And if all else fails, read them again.

My next problem was very strange. Suddenly the thread was bunching up on the bottom side of my project. Out came the instruction manual again, but the answer wasn’t there. I changed the bobbin thread to a different color, which showed me that the top thread was the thread that was bunching up on the bottom. So I started messing with the tension again. But that wasn’t helping at all! So I decided to try a different thread, and SHAZAM! it worked. The original thread I was using was a cheap thread, I changed it to a good quality thread. Lesson 2, this machine does not like cheap thread.

The quilting table is a fabulous accessory! But I am still working out one problem with it. The backside of the table doesn’t seem to attach to anything on the machine. So as I work on my project, the legs shift and eventually they fold up. The instruction manual does not help in this case at all. I’m still working on this one.

Even with these issues, I am still glad I got this machine. I am able to work faster with more precision. The machine is quiet, compared to my Kenmore. And it is much lighter too! The downside is that it moves around on my table more than I like, especially when I am quilting a larger project. I’m not sure how I will fix this problem, but I will eventually.

So now it’s time for you to decide. Good luck!

I am a “quilter wanna-be” and purchased this machine because of it’s portablity and excellent reviews. It is easy to set up and use. The instructions are clear and concise. Although I did have difficulty figuring out the automatic needle threader, once a “pro” showed me, now I’m a pro! The only machine down fall is the light…it is very dim and is difficult to see the project while sewing, if it could be made brighter that would be perfect. The case is nice, although I assumed it was a “carrying case” and it is not, simply a case to put over the machine for storage on a table.

My husband bought this machine for me. I have used a lot of different machines including my mom’s old Bernina. Of all the machines I’ve used, this one is my favorite. It’s is so easy to use. I had never used a drop in bobbin before and wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I love it! I wouldn’t buy another machine without that feature. There are so many different stitches and it does more that I thought it could when we were first looking at it.

The only complaint I have is it’s a little bit loud when you are stitching through thicker fabrics. I sew a lot at night when my kids are asleep. But that’s probably the same with a lot of machines. I love how lightweight it is and how easy it is to take with me places. Great buy, We don’t regret it at all!!

I had been looking at sewing machines, but decided to get this one when it was on sale. It arrived just fine and included all the parts. I have never sewn before, but wanted to learn it as a hobby. I was a little nervous because many of the reviews were talking about problems with tension, and I was concerned my inexperience would make that a problem. I haven’t had any problems learning how to use it though. I have had it for about three weeks and have already made about four projects and done some repair work. The instructions are super clear and make it easy to get started. All of the problems I had were from my inexperience using a sewing machine, and once I had figured out what I was doing wrong it has been working great. It seems to handle most things I throw at it (mostly light-weight to medium fabrics and elastic), but I don’t know how well it will handle heavy duty fabric like denim or leather.

Overall it has been a great purchase and I look forward to sewing on it for years to come.

Ok, so I am giving this 5 stars! It’s a great little machine. You can’t beat the price, the portability and it makes a nice stitch. I notice some people were complaining about tension issues. You need to ALWAYS make that the presser foot is UP when you thread this machine. I think will solve many peoples tension issues. Also thread does make a difference. I don’t use really expensive thread in this machine…it handles coats and clarks thread really well. I have had some spools of really cheap thread from the dollar bin at Jo-ann and these never seem to work well. They don’t work well on any machine I’ve had. So I’d say if you buy decent thread (doesn’t have to be TOL) and certainly read the instructions, this machine should do really well.

    Hope that helps. Enjoy!

After shopping around in brick and mortar stores, and on line, and reading all the reviews here at Amazon, both pro and con, I decided to give the Brother CS 6000 a try. I had fabric ready to sew on when it arrived so I could try it out right away, and I was very pleased with the machine. I made a simple pair of knit pants. This was taking a chance, as I had not sewn in over 30 years and had never sewn on knits before. The machine worked perfectly; I had a range of stitches to choose from. I love that the machine is nice and light, so it is easy to get out and stow away. And yet it is heavy enough to not bounce around on the table while sewing. Like others here, I have yet to figure out the auto-threader, but that hasn’t been a problem. In my opinion, this is a great sewing machine for the price.

The one I was using…although rarely was an old brother model from the 1960’s. So needless to say this model is so light and easy to move unlike the 50 lbs of steel I was using and it’s very user friendly! I was able to get it up and going very quickly. The automatic needle threader is great but it’s a little hard to use. Although my mom has a completely different brand and it threads the same way and so I don’t think it has anything to do with the model or brand it’s just difficult no matter which machine it’s on but it does get easier to do once you figure it out! Definitely would suggest it. I’m a beginner and I’m very happy with it’s ease of use and control when sewing!

I especially like how easy it is to change the stitch type. . . you simply press one button and presto, you can go to zigzag, straight stitching, and any of the other 60 stitch options. It’s lightweight and easy to move around. I agree with one other user though, that filling the bobbin with thread isn’t the easiest, but once you get that done, the sewing part is fun. Worth the money in my opinion.

The Brother CS6000I was purchased for my wife. She loves the machine. It is so light weight she can take it anywhere. I have asked her to finish the review…. This has been the best purchase for my new quilting hobby. This machine is comparable to my heavier machine which I love, too. I was suprised on all of the features it has compared to my other machine. The extended sewing surface is a real plus. The variable speed feature, 60 different stitches I have tried out are enough for me to use at a quilt day camp. It does not have the built in scissor function but for a lot less I can carry a pair around with me. I have even made a lap quilt on this machine. Three of my friends at the quilt guild have this same machine and just love it. I have now shown this to my friends at church and they are interested in purchasing this machine simply because of all the features and how light weight it is. I recommend this machine to everyone!

Only had a problem trying to sew very thin material–got a jam but it was probably my fault for not reading the instructions. For the price, it’s worth every penny. For your average everyday sewing needs, this is the machine that’s a workhorse and priced right, and computerized but not complicated. Also very lightweight. I used to sew all the time. I now only sew occasionally and had been “putting up” with my old Kenmore sewing machine for that reason. It was a great machine in its day, but that was over 30 years ago;-)

Anyway, I decided that the price was too good to pass up and I want to start sewing more. I was so busy over the holidays that I just had a chance to set up the Brother Computerized sewing machine and have the following to say:

    1. I was amazed at how light this was compared to my old machine

    2. It worked wonderfully on my first project, a set of drapes for my mother-in-law

    3. It was very easy to use, and great instructions.

    4. Loved all the attachments/feet that came with it as well as the “extended” sewing surface.

    5. Great deal for the price.

The only negative I might have is that the light could be brighter. I was sewing in a well lit room, but the light on the machine is not very bright.

Otherwise, this is a great little machine for the money.

So I have been without for a few years. I decided recently to get back into sewing and shopped around for a machine and I found this one. It is a great machine!! I LOVE IT!!! It is soooooo easy to use. i was able to re-teach myself sewing very quickly. So whether you are a first timer, or an experienced sewer this machine is great because it is easy to use but also does everything you could want it to, and is very affordable!!! It is a way better machine that those comparable in price (such as the singer of the same price which I have heard is terrible). Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My 10 year old Singer 5040C had a timing problem (again) so after being ready to toss it out the window, I ordered the Brother 6000i. The reviews pulled me toward this one and using Amazon’s SuperSaver free shipping, it arrived in two days vs. the 5-9 as advertised. For everyday mending, curtains, aprons, baby clothes and the kid’s Halloween costumes, look no further. I don’t quilt so I can’t speak to that.

I use one of those plastic white folding tables to sew on but even without any thing to keep it in place, the machine stays put. You will need another light as the one on the machine isn’t bright enough. Following the instructions I was able to thread both the upper and bobbin threads without trouble. I’ve never used an automatic threader before and wow! Ingenious!! It’s a little flimsy but does the job even though I have to fiddle with it a bit to get the arm to wrap around the needle.

My first project was a new zipper for my husband’s outdoor work coat. I was able to put in a 27″ heavy-duty zipper, using the needle that came with the machine (too lazy to change it), and it performed flawlessly for both sewing the zipper between heavy layers of canvas and flannel and re-sewing the 5 large buttons. The feed dogs moved the layers of heavy coat fabric evenly and smoothly through the machine. Switching between the regular and button-hole snap-on feet was a breeze.

By default, the needle stops in the down position keeping the fabric from shifting while pulling pins or repositioning the remainder of the garment. This actually speeds the sewing process because you don’t have to use the handwheel at all to reposition the needle after you come to a stopping point. And during the button installation, I got a double-beep telling me I’d forgotten to put the presser down before sewing. It won’t sew if the presser foot arm is up even if the button foot is holding the button tightly in place. It was simple to switch stitch types to zigzag for the buttons. The big picture of stitch types on the front of the computerized machines has always seemed intimidating but once you read the book and get the idea of how to change the stitches, you feel empowered to use them with ease. After using the computerized features of this machine, going back to a non-computerized one will make you realize how clunky and work-intensive the old ones really are. The foot pedal is flimsy plastic but works just fine.

One recommendation – even if you are an experienced sewer like me, read the book before using any of the features the first time. It only takes a minute and will save you loads of time and grief. I’ve sewn countless buttons and had I not read the book on Button Installation, I’d of never found the switch to disable the feed dogs. Oh! And the thread cutter isn’t on the shank like other machines, it’s on the left side! I had to read the book to find it. In all, this is a great machine for the money.

My old sewing machiene of 18years suddenly died right in the middle of a city wide charity event. I was sewing up bibs and baby blankets to give to teen mothers. I needed a replacement right away so I ordered this machiene and I have been so happy with it. I can do twice the ammount ofbibs in half the time and the decorative stitch features are great because now I can also add beautiful little borders to the bibs and baby blankets. Also the machiene is so smart I’ve never had one like it. I also love the feature it has where you can choose to sew with the pedal or with the simple push of a button which is so nice when your feet get tired after sewing for a few hours. I love this machiene and I recomend it to abosolutely anyone!

This is the best sewing machine I’ve ever had. Excellent for quilting!(since it came with an extention table, walking foot and free motion quilting foot) It is so lite and portable, very easy to take with you. When I was looking at this machine I never thought I’d use the built in needle threader, but it is nearly the best thing since sliced bread… especially when using invisible thread! I also can hardly belive how quiet it is! My husband can’t even tell that I’m sewing in the room next to him.

Sews like a dream, but there are lots of design problems: updated
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Every time I describe this machine to sewing friends, I start and end with “It sews like a dream.” And it does, so far, if it’s not stressed with too many layers (and I haven’t even tried denim yet). But this machine is not, I suspect, a workhorse. It is audibly annoyed at thick layers, like French seams, although so far, it does, with encouragement, sew them together. I love the reverse-stitch button. I love changing stitch types and sizes with the touch of a button, and I really love that it even tells me what presser-foot I will need (although I am not looking forward to changing the feet). And it sews like a dream.

However, the light is ridiculous — small, dim, badly placed — and the first thing I did was clamp a gooseneck lamp to the table so that I could actually see to sew, thread the needle (there is some Rube Goldberg-type set up that is supposed to do that for you, but it is too small to see, requires an extra hand to operate, and works half the time), and see the screen whereon the cool stitch size/type info is displayed. Everything involving the bobbin is terrific, from winding it to dropping it in. Threading the top thread is a snap till the last two steps, which require tiny, nimble fingers and powerful laser-like vision. You will have to roll excess fabric tightly to fit it through the minimalist tunnel between the needle and the body of the machine, so don’t plan on making a heavy wool, lined coat. The narrow, plastic foot pedal feels cheap and is poorly designed. If I merely inhale while sewing, it goes from slow to warp speed, and I spend too much time chasing and repositioning it. This is one of the problems when we don’t have metal parts anymore — you can lift this whole machine with one little finger (literally) — don’t count on it to stay where you’ve put it (and that includes the machine, which I once tipped when shifting fabric). I admit, though, that the thing really does sew like a dream.

This is my first new machine since the Nixon administration, and I still have my fabulous, heavy, mechanical Singer that will sew through layers of chain mail, but I was seduced by the free-arm and the buttonholer (which I’ll eventually use, I suppose) and the alleged improvements and ease of use. I believe that, while it does sew like a dream, this machine was designed by someone who has never sat at a sewing machine to actually use it. You know — to sew something.

PS — I have now been using this machine daily for a couple of months, and I am delighted to say that it handles denim beautifully. In fact, I have fallen in love with this machine. The light still sucks, and the design flaws are still annoying, but I’m loving this sewing machine. The tension issue that I’ve read about happened, in my case, only once and when I understood why (it was my fault — sloppy threading of the bobbin), it has not reappeared. I humbly admit that I was hasty in voicing my concerns. For the money, this machine, despite the light, is a terrific deal. If I could add a star or two, I would, but Amazon doesn’t allow it.

I’ve had this for a week now, I’ve made 3 dresses, a skirt, a pair of pants and about half a quilt.

The only problems I’ve had have been operator error (must remember to always check that the bobbin thread is really in the tensioner), and even then the solutions were to be found in the manual.

I ordered the sewing machine late for a Christmas gift, and had to pay extra for express shipping to get it in time. All went well, machine showed up on time in perfect condition. My only complaint is that the seller simply taped a shipping label to the sewing machine box and did not put it in a shipping box. The UPS lady was walking up the front walk when my daughter spotted her and the sewing machine box (the sewing machine was supposed to be a surprise) and quickly sent my wife to the other room so she wouldn’t see what it was. If you are ordering from this seller, do not expect discretion on what is being shipped. Almost ruined Christmas.

Great Sewing Machine for the money

I haven’t sewn in about 20 years, but wanted to learn to quilt. I am really enjoying using this sewing machine. I’ve only had it about a month, but have used it quite a bit. I was a little concerned because it is very light-weight and the foot pedal is flimsy plastic. Don’t expect industrial-strengh quality, here. But then, it’s not a $1000 machine, either. For basic house-hold use, it does the job. I’ve found it very easy to use with several nice features that make it especially enjoyable. I found the User’s manual easy to understand and it also provided excellent reasons why some people may have experienced the problems documented in other reviews, such as bobbin jamming, needle breaking, etc. I haven’t had any problems with that yet, by the way. I love the electronic stitch selection, the speed adjustment, the needle down option and the automatic needle threader. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. Also, someone mentioned not receiving a 1/4 inch seam foot. I ordered one from another site just to use on this machine. It works fine, but I’ve found that the machine has 2 built-in 1/4 inch piecing stitches to use with the regular “J” foot on the machine and I actually prefer using stitch #37 rather than the special quarter inch foot. It seems to result in a “truer” 12.5 inch block whereas the quarter inch foot always seemed to result in slightly smaller blocks. All in all, I’m pleased with this sewing machine.

I honestly don’t sew much. I didn’t think I could sew until I got this machine. In fact, I bought myself another machine years ago that I gave to my mom, because it was so hard to use. I just thought I couldn’t sew.

My son is now in scouts and they have so many patches to sew on. I decided I needed another sewing machine. Wow. I’m glad I got this one. It’s so easy to use, even for a novice like me. I couldn’t sew a straight line before, but now it’s easy. I even made my son a sleeping bag with buttons and an attached pillowcase. I sew all my son’s patches and do all the mending. It’s so easy. I simply follow the instructions that came with the machine.

Threading couldn’t be simpler. There’s a diagram imprinted on the top of the machine for reference. The automatic needle threaded works like a charm. The bobbin winds easily and all I have to do is drop it in and pull the thread through and it’s done. I remember the days when my mom, a seamstress, would have to thread her own machine. What a pain that was. Glad I don’t have to do it.

There are so many different feet that it comes with and all the necessary tools. I can choose the stitches by looking on the side of the machine and punching the button to match and the screen tells me which foot I need for that stitch. Cool.

This is the best investment in a sewing machine I’ve ever made. So easy to use, lightweight, comes with everything I need, and a great instruction book.

As a total beginner I was surprised how easy it is to create simple things with this machine. I have made 2 envelope pillows and my daughter in law made 3. It is a blast. Now we have to learn how to apply more stitches and hopefully apply zippers and buttons. It is so light, therefore we can move it easily and take it to each other’s house. It has a lot of functions and no extra attachments to buy. I checked other machines and had to pay a lot more money for the same functions.

This product was everything I hoped for. It’s easier to use than any other machine I’ve ever had. I’d recommend this machine to everyone.

    A complete sewing novice…….
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I once tried to use a sewing machine when I was around 14 and into altering my clothes. Honestly, I think I almost blew up the darn thing. I had borrowed it from my grandmother and I don’t know if it ever worked again. At that time I vowed NEVER to touch a sewing machine again(I easily get frustrated when things don’t work out the way I plan). Well, about 13 years later, I decided I wanted to make a quilt out of old band t-shirts. I had planned on sending them away to a professional company, but could not justify the $400-500 price, and someone said “why don’t you do it yourself?”. Never one to turn down a challenge, I decided to give it a go. If I “blew up” another machine I would know I’m never meant to use one.

I read a lot of reviews on amazon, because frankly, I didn’t even know what I was looking for. I knew something that was ‘user friendly’ and good for a beginner. Beyond that, totally clueless. I remembered the Brother brand being good, and I liked the look of the machine. Not too many knobs and buttons and I can totally work with digital. The fewer things I can manually break the better. I also didn’t want to go all out on price, but get something moderate so that if I did end up enjoying it, I wouldn’t have to immediately get a better one. So, with these ideas, I finally decided on this machine.

And I’m EXTREMELY proud to say, I made a quilt/blanket my first day. No, it wasn’t perfect, but I got the machine running and found it pretty easy to figure out. I started slow and really paid attention to the manual (which is rare in my case). Granted, some of the terminology is like reading something in the hardest foreign language possible, but some staring at the diagrams in the manual helped me to figure it out(and making a couple phone calls to see what threading the bottom and the top meant, did I need to do both? Apparently so.) I even know what a bobbin is now. =)

I’m currently starting my second quilt and I’m really excited to learn. I’ve ordered some ‘complete guides to quilting’ to get a better idea of things, but I am confident this machine will work well for me. I think the light it has is fantastic, I could easily get busy in a darkened room and see what I was doing. Once you get the hand of threading it’s easy to remember. The speed button works well, it can go very slow if you’re unsure and speed up as you become more used to the machine.

The only thing I don’t love is….and maybe there’s a trick to this I haven’t caught onto yet…..is that I end up JAMMING as much blanket as possible under the arm to try and finish things in the middle of the blanket. I wish there was more room between the body of the machine and where the stitching happens. I’ve fiddled a little with the different stitches, which is really fun. I still don’t know what the tension is, but I guess I’ll figure it out as I go along.

If you’re a beginner like I am, I would definitely recommend this machine. It’s a fun new hobby and not nearly as daunting as I had thought it would be. Happy quilting!

    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This machine is packed with a lot of bells & whistles and looks promising at first glance, but when it comes to plain ‘ol straight stitch, for some reason the machine can’t handle it.

I don’t know if I just received a defective machine or if they’re all like this, but it would not produce a healthy looking straight stitch. The thread kept looping on the reverse side of the fabric. I tried adjusting the tension to every available setting – didn’t help. I changed the bobbin, I’ve rethreaded it numerous times, I even changed the needle. Nothing helped.

Besides for not working properly, the machine is also made very cheaply.

To open the bobbin door you have to tag on a little plastic catch which I’m sure will break in no time. The door itself is a thin piece of plastic that comes off the machine instead of sliding to the side. Every time you need to mess with the bobbin, you need to fit the door back in (that is if you don’t loose it while it’s off).

I was very much looking forward to using this machine but it turned out to be a big disappointment and I will be returning it.

There are a lot of features on it, and I still keep the manual near by, but over all it’s a very easy machine to use and is VERY fast. It has features such as a the variable speed that I wasn’t even aware of when I bought it. The needle threader is neat and the removable extension table is very handy. I bought this machine after reading the review by Plein Jane. What a great machine! It was so much fun to work with after my Singer (which sort of fell apart after only three small quilt projects). This machine has all the functions of the $1000+ Janome that I’ve been drooling over for a couple of years. For someone like me who cannot afford to spend that kind of money on a machine, and for those who can, this is the machine to buy. The only thing that could make it better is if it will work for me for many years. UPS needs to be more careful in shipping. The box it came in was pretty beaten up.

    Brother CS6000I Sewing Machine
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am not a expert seamstress by any means, as I have only sewn the most simplest of children’s dresses and shorts (and only with the help of my mother!), but I haven’t bothered to learn to sew because of the sewing machine I already had. It gave me a lot of grief, and after spending entirely too long just trying to sew my kids a couple of “supergirl capes” I decided that if I was going to ever use a sewing machine again it had to be better than this old one of mine.

I picked the Brother CS6000I due to all the good reviews it got, and also the fact that it did not cost very much. It arrived 2 days after I ordered it and I have absolutely no complaints about it yet. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now and have actually begun to sew my daughters some dresses (and more shorts) without my mom’s help using this new machine. But when it first arrived I had to study it for awhile. I am the sort who has to read all the directions, instruction manuals and study something before I’m ready to try it. After doing so, I got some scrap cloth and started trying out the various stitches. I was very pleased! This machine ran like a top, did everything I asked it to and will easily sew through many layers of cloth. I tested it pretty good and afterwards had to call my mom to tell her how neat it was!

I like being able to take it with me, visually it is nice to look at, it tells me what presser foot to use on the stitches I select, and is pretty much dummy proof. It is so easy to load the bobbin and have the thread automatically come up. If you’ve used a dinosaur like my old one, that was a long and laborious task. Just the simple things on it save so much time and frustration. And something that I found to be incredibly neat was the fact that you can see the bobbin (through the clear plastic cover) and can know when it’s getting low on thread. I hate sewing a seam and in the middle of it somewhere I run out of bobbin thread. That won’t happen with this machine unless I just fail to look at the bobbin. I feel I made a very good purchase.

I’ve been using my machine almost every day for over two months now, and I’m still in love with it. It is just as quiet, light, and efficient as I hoped it would be. This is my first digital model, so maybe I’m just overly impressed, but I couldn’t imagine getting a better machine for this price. The stitches look even better on fabric than they do on the side of the machine, and I love that you can alter the width and length of every one. It comes with almost any attachment you could possibly need, plus a storage case.

Brother really won me over with this machine!

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This machine is wonderful. I’ve only had it for a week and I’ve already made 3 sets of curtains, quilted covers for drafty vents, and 5 other projects. It is super easy to thread with step by step “directions” on the machine so I won’t have to dig out the manual if I don’t use it for a while. I ran out of bobbin thread and it took less than a minute to take it out, wind the bobbin, re-thread the machine, put the bobbin back in, and start sewing again. I haven’t been sewing that long and this machine makes me look like a pro.

Changing parts is easy-the foot comes off and a new one snaps on in seconds; the quilting table easily slides on, and all the spare parts you could possibly need are included. I also like the reverse button and “needle up/down” button. The machine stops with the needle down (but you can easily change this setting) and the touch of a button brings it up-no wheel to turn. Plus, you can sew just one stitch by pressing the button twice.

The only problem I’ve had is it doesn’t like cheap thread-which another reviewer also mentioned. The thread only broke twice (which is 1000 times less than my old machine) but I decided that quality thread was worth the extra few bucks.

I brag about this machine to all my friends. I would highly recommend it to anyone doing a little or a lot of sewing. Happy sewing.

The machine is super computerized and it makes it very easy to select the many functions it has. Probably the best feature (judging from my partner’s reactions, who’s been sewing for years) is that buttonhole making function. He always tells me that making buttonholes is so difficult. With this machine you just need to set the foot, the function, and just push the pedal, the machine will do the rest. Even for me, that I’ve never sewn a button, it’s impressive.

On a whim I decided to buy a sewing machine to try my hand at sewing again because I enjoyed it so much when I was younger. I purchased this from my local Walmart who had a very limited selection of machines. The reviews on this machine were good so I purchased it. I could not be happier with my selection and would recommend this machine to anyone who is learning or has limited sewing capabilities. What is so great about this machine is the fact it is computerized and has many stitches to select from. Also it comes with many great attachments. At a price of less than $200 you can’t go wrong. I’ve had this machine for about 2 weeks so I haven’t tried everything yet. I haven’t sewn in about 25 years and boy-oh-boy have things changed. However, I’m amazed at what I’ve been able to do so far. When I used the overcasting stitch for the first time it nearly blew my mind. And sewing stretch material is a cinch; just follow the instruction guide in the User Manual that comes with the machine. When you choose a particular stitch length and width are automatically set – no more guessing – but can be adjusted if you want.

I was a little hesitant in buying this machine because I thought it might require a more experienced sewer to use it but it’s just what I needed. I highly recommend this machine for any sewer, new or experienced. Also, the price can’t be beat considering everything that comes with it and Brother has always had an excellent reputation for making top-of-the-line sewing machines. Am looking forward to making lots of clothes and other stuff for my grandkids . . . and for me as well.

I worked on this machine for about 8 hours before giving up and returning. I am an experienced seamstress and sell much of what I make, primarily appliqued fleece baby clothes. The fleece didn’t feed well through the machine, stitches were skipped, and the top thread looped and tangled on the wrong side. I contacted the manufacturer and tried all suggestions – their final advice was to return to the dealer. Too bad the machine had some nice features. The decorative stitches were clumsy looking however.

I purchased this machine based on the positive reviews it received. My 40+ machine was worn out and I wanted simple machine for alterations and simple sewing. I was impressed with the ease of use and the complex stitching it performed, but on the first seam I sewed the feed dogs broke! The machine is not well made and could not handle a simple, light weight cotton seam! Amazon sent me a full refund and I bought a Singer machine for much more money, but buying cheap is not the way to go!

Brother CS6000I 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple Stitch Functions

super machine to use with a great results.

light weight and very well done with multiple stich functions..

I use this more than the more expenisve one I own.

I take it with me all over the place.. I travel and sew quilts.

The only draw back is the narrw opening at the top.. So you fold the quilt top and use the bigger ones for the middle part.

I am so glad I got this MACHINE. Yes, I would recomend this to a beginner or pro..

don’t let the weight fool you in any way… Push button controls for operation of motion no foot pedal needed to operate!!!!

I use it all the time just think you DONOT have to use the foot pedal if you are HANDICAPPED as I an am. Need to elevate your knees or the legs?

That’s right no foot pedal if you want it is so cool…….!!!!!!

wish they would make a more deluxe than this one!!!!

    Thanks,Brother for great machine

Thanks, Amazon for a freat price toooo…

This machine works great! I was very excited when it arrived. I have been working on a McKenna Ryan applique quilt (difficult for me) for a while and broke my old singer trying to do free stitching when the machine wasnt designed for it. this one works really well! also the light is a nice blueish light that is really easy to look at and not blinding. Machine sounds very happy when you turn it on! Im not sure if i will be able to do the top stitching on the quilt with this machine, there may not be enough space for the quilt on the inside of the machine. but it came with the free motion quilting foot and the walking foot, both of which have been very helpfull, and the zipper foot is really easy to use!

This machine is amazing!! My husband bought this Brother machine for me for Mothers Day this year. Compared to my old machine this is a step up from the intro level machine I had been using for 6 years. As soon as the UPS man dropped it off, I had it out of the box and began reading the very informative Users manual. Let me tell you…..you get ALOT for your money. This machine come with every accesory you could ever possibly need. It comes with the hard case, needles, several different presser feet, several bobbins, seam ripper, tools for adjusting your machine, and a little bag to store everything in.

But to top it all off, this machine sews very, very well. I like that it has both a foot pedal and finger controled option for sewing. This was something new for me, and I am in love with the button over the foot pedal.

Don’t let the price fool you. You will be very pleased with this machine.

what a great machine, at an affordable price. I set out to buy a new sewing machine, thinking i was going to get another brand. I already have a brother machine, that is 9 yrs.old, but still works well. I wanted some new features to make my sewing easier, as i am a pursemaker, and i do alot of sewing when preparing for craft shows etc. Features desired were, needle up/down choice, computerized machine with many built in stitches, i.e. overcasting stitch and decorative stitches, quiet operation, top bobbin load,free-arm, dependability and of course, reasonable price. Last year, I purchased a Singer sewing machine with the above features in mind, and not the cheap models at Wal*Mart. Spent almost $400.00 from sewing store. Couldn’t be more disappointed. Bought this brother machine thru Amazon, Amazon is great for price and quick shipping, and was so pleasantly surprised at the quality. I don’t quilt or embroider, so I don’t use those features, but you could with this model. I do alot of sewing, inserting zippers, overcasting, etc. You can buy with confidence and get a great product for a great price and great service.

I was so excited when my brother cs6000i arrived on a Friday afternoon. I thought it would be great to catch up on hemming my daughters’ hems on her shorts that I had been needing to do. I thought this was the perfect machine to try out one of the nifty decorative electronic stitches. Couldn’t even get 1/4 of the way without an error message. So took out my work and thougth I just needed some practice on a scrap piece…Continued to get error message…And the machine kept locking up….I then proceded to break one needle and then bent 2 more. So I changed out 3 needles all in one day…..I thought it had to be me, as no sewing machine could possibly give me so much trouble. I wasn’t about to give up. I continued with various decorative stiches and each time I got E5 error message…I called the manufacturer and after they had my name number where I lived, and a zillion other questions they finally told it needed servicing…When I get something brand new, I expect it to function like a new machine…Sadly, I sent it back……Amazon was great however!

I am very frustrated by the reviews-especially the ones by PLEIN JANE, for example. SHE HAS REVIEWED 3 DIFFERENT MACHINES, and HER STORIES DON’T ADD UP.

How many REVIEWERS are just plants?

I had this machine six months before it started falling apart. First the bobbin winder, then the bobbin case, finally the electrical system. Sure, the price looks good, but this is a very cheaply made machine that isn’t built to last.

I’m an experienced seamstress and used the machine at least a couple days a week, so if you intend to use your machine only rarely and for simple tasks, it *might* hold up for you. Then again, if you need just basic sewing functions, you’re much better off with an inexpensive Singer. I’m now looking into buying a Singer again (used to have a basic model that never gave me any problems). It’ll cost more up-front, but probably not in the long run!

After shopping around and reading lots of reviews, I decided to go for this one. It is definitely important to check the tension before anything else. I’ve had great results on the three projects I’ve done with it so far.

Brother CS6000I 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple Stitch Functions I bought this machine for my daughter after her older model Brother was accidently dropped down a flight of stairs. She calls me nearly every day to rave about the CS6000I. She says it handles multiple layers and thick fabric with no problem. The embroidery function has been a dream and hassle free plus the extention table is very useful for controlling items like baby clothes. She practiced all the functions of the machine and says it’s sooo easy to use. She claims she won’t own anything but a BROTHER sewing machine and the CS6000I is perfect for the clothing she makes for her “all things hand made store” (not the name of the store)… plus she doesn’t have to buy extra feet because this machine comes with every foot she could possibly need.

I got this machine in March 2009, and it has performed even better than I expected! I have been using it to sew cloth diapers and various other small items. It is extremely easy to use and become familiar with. My favorite feature is the needle raise/lower button. I would definitely recommend (and have!) this machine to others for everyday sewing projects. This would not be a good machine if you plan to use it for a business where you sew from home or anything, but it is a fantastic machine for the price. The main reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it is made mostly of plastic, which is fine but this probably won’t be an heirloom machine or anything. Overall, great machine, great price!

After reading over 90 reviews for the Brother CS-6000i, and comparing the value to other similarly priced machines, I took the plunge and ordered it. It is easy to use. The operation manual is simple to follow. After sewing for a few weekends, I think I’m getting accustomed to my electronic sewing machine. Previously, I had a Singer that finally gave out after about 35 years of occasional use. Here is my concern, also voiced by many reviewers: the bobbin tension is too loose. The bobbin thread can be pulled out with only a little effort. The bobbin is wound correctly and inserted/threaded per the manual. I have tightened the top tension as high as it can go – no change. I am going to try different weight fabrics, different thread, and anything else I can think of, before I make up my mind about keeping or returning the machine. I sew for fun but it is not fun to fight the equipment. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Let’s just start off and say for the most part I am very happy with the Brother CS 6000I. I love that is is so quiet and I love the push button sewing. I do like the all the options of different stitches available. It is also very light weight which is great if you carry your machine. But if you are working a project, have a note pad next to you and write down what stitch and the setting you are using because if you shut your machine it defaults to the 00 stitch function.

Now, what I do not like is the thread post. If you are not a very steady seamstress, like me, you will vary your speed and the thread flies off the machine as the post is very short. I use the attachable post a lot but if you vary your speed the thread will spin fast and wrap around the post. So I do not use the fast speed option to remedy this frustration. The other thing that I do not like about this machine is the automatic threader. I find I have to do SEVERAL attempts to finally get the thread to: 1) stay on the threader and 2) grab the thread. These problems are enough of a frustration to make me score this a three star product.

I have made one quilt on it so far and I really liked having the “quilting board” it made controlling the quilt so nice I wonder how I ever did it without it.

For the money it is a very nice machine.

Editing review to add that Brother responded to my letter asking about the missing presser feet, and I’ve received the feet.

My last machine was a Brother refurb. It lasted five years, through about 40 quilts, so I was ready for another Brother.

I like this one. It’s similar enough to my old one that threading and bobbin winding were easy to figure out. However, I’m not crazy about the LED display and stitch selection feature. I’ve already broken one needle — after setting the needle position to accommodate the presser foot I wanted to use, the needle broke on the presser plate below. I’d like to be able to use the 1/4″ foot that I used on the old machine, but I can’t get the needle positioned correctly.

The motor is much quieter than my old machine, but there’s a click with every stitch. Anyone know if that’s to be expected? Or am I doing something wrong?

    I love the light weight!

Edited after using the machine for a couple of weeks: I’ve had a couple of issues with thread tension staying where I want it. I’ll get the right setting, sew for awhile, and whoopsadaisy, without making any adjustments, the tension needs adjusting.

I wrote to Brother almost 2 weeks ago asking about the clicking noise, and to let them know I didn’t get two presser feet that were supposed to come with the machine. I sent the proof of purchase, and I even copied the page from the manual and circled the presser feet that were missing. No response yet.

I’ve had to add light in my sewing room — the lights on the machine aren’t bright enough when I’m working with dark fabric.

Other than that, I’m still pretty happy, but when I can afford it, I’m going to test sew on a Bernina or Husqvarna.

Also, the stitch that’s supposed to mimic the look of hand quilting doesn’t look like any hand quilting I’ve ever seen.

I sew pretty regularly and decided to move to an electronic machine that doesnt have too many unnecessary features that I know i wouldnt be using. And this sewing machine is simply great. Works very smoothly (hardly any noise), is unbelievably light weight, and has around 60 decorative stitches.

The only thing is that it looks a little brittle. Even if you pull the material a lil hard to cut the thread, u might risk bending the needle or even breaking it !!!

But, ive still given it 5 stars coz it does everything i need it to do and the price is simply a steal. It stitches very smoothly, comes with all the accessories u will need, all foots included. Just simply learn to treat your machine right. And it will serve you well, for a looooong time !!!

PS : This comes with a hard cover and a large detatchable table for working on large projects, which is not mentioned in the product description !!

Love the light weight, love the easy, computerized stitch switch, love the speed set feature, love the great-looking buttonholes and attractive decorative stitiches. Unlike some reviewers I have had no problems with the machine using old/cheap thread, sewing multiple/thick layers or any of the other problems. True, if you were sewing blue jeans or slipcovers you might find it too light weight [hint: find and use a "hump-jumper"], but overall, a great -even excellent- machine at a good price.

I did months of research and even consumer reports listed this one as #2 on their top five to get. I am definitely happy with my purchase. It does everything I need it to and then some. The only thing I wish it had was the 1/4″ pressure foot which is misleading in the manual as having but isn’t included which I had to purchase and coincidentally, the only foot I really needed. Considering how inexpensive the machine is, I can’t complain. It’s very quiet, very lightweight, comes with a cover, a quilting table, and all sorts of neat presser feet and does great decorative stitches. I LOVE this machine!!

I love the ease of changing stitches through the computerized selection. The instruction book is very informative and easy to follow. The machine stitches through even very thick materials with ease despite it’s light weight. The only difficulty I’m having at the moment is with the automatic needle threaded … It only catches sometimes … but I ‘m sure it’s my inexperience and my success rate should get better. This is by far the best little “lightweight” machine I’ve ever sewn with. I have over 20 some sewing machines several being singer featherweights and this little Brother is a workhorse. I love the little table and all of the stitches. It has all the bells and whistles of the bigger machines but in a lightweight bundle. I love it for taking to classes and friends houses to sew. I am a quilter and this machine comes with all of the feet and features I need plus a nice table for extra sewing room. It has needle up, needle down, self threading, a nice 1/4 inch stitch, walking foot, free motion foot and more. I’ve had one for over a year and it’s my travel companion. I’ve also recommended it to many other quilter’s and we have quite a number of very happy guild members that now own one of these machines. I love my ‘Little Brother’ as I fondly call it. 100% satisfied.

I think this sewing machine is great. My daughter got it for Christmas and was in the middle of a quilt project when she got sick… too sick to finish it. She needed to get the project done, so I decided to help her. I’ve never in my whole life ever tried a sewing machine. So, I got out the manual and followed the directions step by step, and got the machine working with no problems whatsoever. I will say that I could NOT figure out the automatic threader, so I’ve been threading the needle the old fashioned way, which I just chalked up to inexperience. Anyway, I ended up finishing the quilt and then making 2 more! This thing sews through the fabric with no problem… 2 layers of fleece and a layer of warm and natural batting. Now I’m totally in love with sewing… it’s great fun… and I’m very pleased with this sewing machine! Even though I personally don’t have a machine to compare it to, my daughter took sewing lessons on a $1000 Husqvarna, and she said this Brother feels sturdier and the only difference she could tell was that there are fewer stitches to choose from. Also, this came with a little case full of feet and bobbins and a seam ripper and various other things. I doubt we’ll ever use them since I don’t have clue what they are, but I guess it’s nice that they are there should we ever need them! I don’t think you can go wrong with this for the price. It has been great for us!

i have tried to sew for years. with budget limits, my husband agreed to a sewing machine years ago that i have HATED. a dozen or so years–with me restraining myself from throwing that sewing machine out the window–i finally went on a mission to find a fabulous sewing machine at a fabulous price. so, like any other major purchase, i researched. (and bugged my hubby until he caved in)

this lovely machine is the machine that kept coming up at the top of any “best rated sewing machine” list i would look at. i have to admit, although i knew Brother had a good name, my oh so hated machine was a brother. so, i wasn’t interested. after about a month of faithful researching, i realized that like it or not, this machine must be good. so, i found the best deal (yay me) and took the plunge. i now LOVE brother. this machine is easy to use, runs so smoothly, there was hardly any tweeking time, it’s great for a beginner as well as an old pro. i have the ability to advance from my simple straight stitching to any number of detailed stitches. i can take up quilting! (if and when i have time)

i love my machine! i highly recommend this for anyone who may have doubted brother in the past. if you have that cheap machine purchased from that one supercenter i probably can’t mention, please don’t judge all of the brother machines on that. try this. it’s wonderful!

and by the way, read the owners manual. it’s an easy read, full of wonderful info that puts it out there for you in terms you can understand. it is so extremely helpful.

If you are new to sewing, this is the perfect machine. I sew quite a bit, dolls, cloths, and quilts, and this works just perfectly. My more expensive machine has been banished to the closet. I haven’t had any need to bring it out.

I recently decided to learn sewing, so I came to Amazon, did some research on machines and after looking at quite a few, I decided this one appeared to be what I needed. It struck me as a machine that would be good for a beginner, but also have all the features I would need once I was at intermediate or advanced levels so I wouldn’t need to get another one for a while. I also wanted something at a mid-price range, not one of the really cheap ones below $100, but also not in the 300-500 dollar range.

Since I had never tried sewing with a machine before in my life, I signed up for a few sewing classes at Joann’s and had my first class last Saturday. It was great that they let you bring your own machine to the class, since I didn’t even know how to put the thread through the machine. Once I got there, there was another lady who had bought her machine the day before and she was going on and on about how much research she had made and how great her machine was. But, as the class proceeded, it became clear that lots of thing my machine did automatically, such as putting the thread through the needle, sewing backwards, raising the needle, etc., had to be done manually with her machine. Even changing the needle and little foot by the needle were incredibly easy tasks to do with my machine and she seemed to struggle with hers. By the end of the class, I was really happy I had chosen this maching. Having someone else with another machine helped me realize how much easier mine was to operate and set up.

At the next class, which was today and with another teacher, I was told by the teacher that I had a really good and nice to work with machine.

    So, here are my thoughts:

    PROS

    - light-weight and easy to carry around

    - comes with a hard cover included

    - needles included are German-made and of great quality

    - comes with all the accessories you need for quilting, etc.

    - incredibly easy to set up, thread (there’s actually a drawing of how the thread is supposed to go around the machine, all you have to do is follow it, really dummy-proof!), change accessories, etc; easy to operate in general.

    - really nice and large selection of different stiches, about 60 of them

    - beginner friendly

    - has all the features an advanced user needs (the only thing it doesn’t do is embroidery). I don’t believe I will need another machine until this one breaks.

    CONS

    - I haven’t run into any yet! :)

    Good luck and happy sewing!

This machine, The Brother CS6000I, is all it is advertised as being, and a good description is provided on Amazon.com. It’s lightwieght; I carry it to all quilting groups/classess. The several stitch choices and easy to reach drop feed dog button are a must. It’s quiet. The over size provided table and included quilting feet are a sure indication this machine was built with ‘piecemaker’ in mind.

A word of caution. Because it is computerized, the needle position defaults to ‘OO’when turned off and on. This default leaves your needle to the left of center. Easy to fix, just push the button and move the needle position to O1. Read your manual – it clearly explains everything you need to know and is provided in English and Spanish.

It’s versatility makes it am excellent choice for a home-use machine.

After reading a lot of reviews on Amazon, I purchased this machine from my local Target. After nearly a year of steady use, I am happy to report that I adore this sewing machine. I’ve used a lot of home machines, ranging from the very poor quality (ever tried one of those as-seen-on-TV handy stitch things?) to high-end Husqvarna embroidery models, and this machine is by far my favorite. It sews easily and without the usual array of quirks and irritations that usually plague sewing machines. Everything is really ergonomic and intuitive, and when using another machine I find myself missing the small features (speed control, needle lift, quick threading, easy bobbins, etc) that make this machine such a pleasure to use. As a disclaimer, I don’t typically sew anything too heavy duty. I use the machine for garment construction and some crafts, and I think the heaviest thing I do with it is sew my own (canvas) grocery bags. Also, the “decorative” stitches aren’t too pretty, so if those are really important to you, maybe this isn’t your best bet. Other than that, I love this machine, and I look forward to years of sewing with it.

For a novice sewer facing (with fear and trembling) the prospect of trying out a new machine, this was the right choice! I ordered this machine after my 1966 Singer burned up in a repair shop fire. Very sad day. Not sad anymore! I received this sewing machine, read the instructions first thing as recommended by other reviewers and sat down to try it out. Wow!!!! I can’t emphasize WOW enough! This machine is fantastic. It sews like a dream and the three speed selector is great. I love how when you select a new stitch it tells you right on the screen which presser foot to use. And the presser feet are super easy to attach. My old Singer you had to unscrew it but this just snaps on. The button that allows you to sew one stitch at a time is super nice too. It uses my normal thread just fine, some of the other reviewers who had problems with thread must have had some really cheap, crappy thread. I also have high praise for the platform that attaches to the machine to give you a larger sewing surface. I highly recommend this sewing machine to anyone, it is a joy to use and will make you very happy.

I bought this machine about two years ago.At that time I had never sewn before but with the help of this little machine, a few sewing books and some sewing lessons on dvd I was able to learn. The dvd that comes wih it shows you how to wind the bobbins and thread the machine which is always a big help to beginners like I was at the time.Even my mom who has been sewing for years is impressed with how easy it is to use. This is my first sewing machine ever and I really love it.Sometimes sewing through heavy layers like denim can be a pain but just go slow and use the right size needle. All in all I really would recommend this machine, it has more stitches than you could ever want and comes with a lot of additional presser feet and accessories.I have never had any problems so far.Now I am a sewer just like my mom and my friends and family are so impressed.I could never have done it if this machine was difficult to use.I would have probably just given up.I am extremely happy with my purchase and I think you will be to.

I was hesitant to purchase this because of the price compared to similar models/features in stores seemed too good to be true. I was in a pinch-in the middle of a project that needed to be completed quickly when the foot pedal for my Elna Club quit. It couldn’t be repaired and the replacement cost was similar to the cost of the Brother machine. I figured I wouldn’t be out any more and would at least have a back-up while I got my old machine squared away. Long story short, I love this machine and the Elna has gone to its final resting place. I was up and sewing in less than 10 minutes. I was making outdoor decorative pillows out of waterproof canvas prints and the machine flew through them without a hitch. I even used the built in stippling stitch to quilt one of the pillow tops. I am getting ready to do my first quilt on the new machine and am quite excited to use the walking foot, extension table and the quilting foot that are included to complete the project. The light is a drawback as it is not as bright as I would like, but that can be easily overlooked when compared to the ease of use and versatility that the machine offers. I would recommend this machine as it has proven to be a GREAT buy for the money!

I am a novice sewer, and bought this sewing machine based on the reviews. I have used it for about a month now and find that it works fine. I have not had any issue with the needle breaking, like some reviewers have. I have even used it to sew very thick fabrics like padded vinyl. Although, I did buy a larger size needle for that at the suggestion of a store employee who was cutting the vinyl for me. I find it very easy to drop in the bobbin, to wind it, to thread, change the foot and needle. I even told my mom about it, who was a professional seamstress, and she thought that the price was amazing for what the machine can do.

I have had nothing but trouble with the machine since I bought it. I used it only a few times and it started breaking needles. I looked in the manual and it said that the bobbin case was scratched and so I bought another at $35.00 and that did not work. So I decided to see if a professional could help. Well he did for a short time and then it started having the same problem. I spent $80.00 to have it fixed the first time and decided to take the next $80.00 and apply it towards another machine instead of getting frustrated again.

The day I received my Brother CS6000I, I finished shortening curtains for my grandaughter’s room. Easy. Then, I began looking for items requiring darning or patching or mending, so I’ve used several of the stitches. Easy and beautifully done. It has purpose. Now, I’m searching for a project that I can do to give the machine wings. My old machine was a wrestling match. It’s such a pleasure to sit at a machine with no tension issues, ease of use, understandable operating instructions, and all-round facility. It is a joy to use.

    Tension Problem Stories Are True!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
There are many things to love about the CS6000i. My favorite thing is probably the setting that allows the needle to stay in the fabric when you quit sewing. The drop in bobbin is great and it’s extremely quiet and smooth.

With the 4+ star rating for this machine, I chose to believe that the tension problems mentioned in some of the reviews were not common and just a fluke in a machine every now and then. However, my machine sewed wonderfully the first day, but day two was a different story – it was like a gremlin had come in during the night and swapped machines. No matter how I adjusted the tension, the threads were laying on top of the fabric and not forming proper loops. The seams were puckering (I was sewing on same fabric as day one) and the stitches were uneven, loose and not secure.

I’m returning the machine before my 30 day guarantee is over. It has everything you could want in a sewing machine, but the quality just isn’t there like in my older model Brother.

I don’t use the machine to do a lot of regular sewing – just for repairs and hemming. It works just fine for those chores and I have had fun playing with the different stitches. It is very easy and fun to use but some parts seem a little cheaply made (i.e., the needle threader) but for the price it seems a good machine.

I used a borrowed Brother CS6000i at a guild quilting workshop and I loved it. I have a back problem and thus can’t lift my own home sewing machine. So I was delighted that this lightweight machine has so many features (needle down, speed control, many stitches, etc.). I especially liked the sliding speed control that I could use without using a foot pedal. I used it when doing a blanket stitch at the class and both the blanket stitch and the speed control really worked well in creating the look I wanted on the block I was creating. I decided as a result of the experience I had with the CS6000i, that I would buy one. I was delighted with the quickness with which my order was sent. The CS6000i arrived in excellent condition. I tried it out and everything worked well, including the speed control and the blanket stitch. If I had only one machine I could have, this would be it.

This is the first sewing machine I have ever owned, or operated, and I could not be happier. It was very beginner friendly, with CLEAR instructions and diagrams – before opening the box I had no idea what a “presser foot,” “bobbin,” or pretty much anything else associated with a sewing machine was and I have just completed sewing monkey costumes for my kids for Halloween! I couldn’t believe how easy it was to learn to use! I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to sew!

This machine is just fine for beginners or for those who will only use it sparingly. It’s easy to use with a lot of fun stitches, but it’s very very sensitive & doesn’t like anything other than the best thread & light materials. The first day I got it it jammed up within 30 minutes but once I changed to a higher quality thread it worked fine– for about an hour. As soon as I tried using some interfacing with cotton (a simple tote bag project), the machine jammed up again & I had to replace the needle. It ultimately finished the project, but there was some coaxing on my part. Needless to say, this machine doesn’t like medium to heavy-weight material & you’ve got to use really good quality stuff on it, otherwise it will leave you hanging. On the flip side, I’ve made several sets of curtains and pillow cases with no problem. So, it’s really all about what you need to use this machine for–

I am extremely happy with my new purchase! I also own a Husqvarna Viking Scandinavia, and this cheaper Brother machine comes pretty close to the quality of my Viking (at least so far). It comes with every accessory you will ever need, and the manual is very well-written, comprehensive, and easy to understand. Some other reviewers have said that their machine doesn’t sew through thick fabric very well. This hasn’t been my experience, as I just repaired a thick leather purse without any issues. Not at all sluggish considering how thick the leather was. Also, the machine isn’t loud and clanky, which is a definite plus for me. It’s uncomplicated looking, but has LOTS of useful features that I am excited to utilize. Although the machine is very light and easy to carry, it doesn’t feel or look cheaply made. I think this is as good as it gets for under $200!

P.S. – I’ve owned a Singer in the same price range as this Brother and the quality was terrible, so I definitely don’t recommend Singer if you are looking for a model that’s easy on your wallet.

I just took my new Brother CS-6000i out of the box tonight, and I made my first Xmas stocking ever! As other reviewers mention, the manual is great: specific and extensive. This is my first new sewing machine; my last one was a second-hand Singer Touch and Sew from the 70s (which I’ve had since the mid-80s!). I can’t believe the difference! Not having to practically take the machine apart to change a presser foot, thread a bobbin, etc., feels like such a luxury. :) I know there are sturdier, more intricate machines available; after reading the reviews here, I knew this one would be just right for me. I’ll be able to quilt, do little craft projects, modify clothes and anything else I might want to try. At this price, it’s just great!

I had this machine for a little over a week and just finished packing it up to ship back. It is so lightweight that it wobbled and rattled all over my sturdy sewing table when I sewed on the fastest speed. The thread broke often, regardless of the tension setting. Feeding fabric through was another challenge – it pulled to one side, much like driving a car out of alignment. It appealed to me because of the assortment of decorative stitching (which I use often). Maybe this machine was just a lemon, but I’m not willing to try it again.

That said, it is not a terrible machine. When stitching straight, it did a good job. It would be good for having a portable back-up.

I just got this product about a month ago and so far so good. It was a little touchy at first and was having some major issues with thread. I don’t know how many times I rethreaded it but I finally got it to work. It was jamming and having terrible stitches and it was really really frustrating but if you keep working at it, it ill work out. Im not really sure what I did but hopefully I can keep it up! Unfortunately there are some things that can’t really be fixed. I was quilting a quillow that I was making and the machine just does not allow for enough space to move things around. It is a very small area between the needle and the machine and that makes quilting extremely difficult. Small items would be no problem but don’t get this machine thinking that you can quilt a blanket size easily. I had to stop after only getting a small amount done since my arms hurt so bad. Also for a machine that is geared towards quilting it does NOT come with a 1/4inch foot which is pretty much essential. I just assumed that it did come with one because it came with everything else. But no, it does not. So all in all this is a pretty good machine for the money. If you are just starting out than this is the machine to get. I figure if I am still quilting in a couple of years than I will probably by a nice Pfaff or maybe ever splurge on a long arm.

The bobbin winder turns off the needle motion automatically. The needle threader works well. Very easy to thread and just start sewing. The needle down option is very useful. My trusty machine finally expired and instead of investing money to fix it I researched machines for features and cost and picked this one up as a back-up machine. I sew garments and am a quilter. There is some play with the feed dogs but once I learned the “quirk” it was easy to compensate for by guiding the fabric and holding it more taut then I usually do with my other machines. I have had the machine for about 1 month but have pieced 3 quilt tops, lightly quilted a table runner and have made several simple pajamas for gifts. A nice little machine for the money with great accessories. When I get my new Brother QC-1000 this little one will become the one I tote to classes.

I have received this machine about three weeks ago and do not like to just jump in and give a good or bad review. I have many years experience sewing and have enjoyed the ease of learning to use this machine and experimenting with the uses I have put it through. So far, so good. I do not think it will take the place of my older Singer machine I have used to make sail covers and recover furniture. Perhaps a Sailrite manual machine is the way to go for that, but so far, everything has worked well. I do not think a novice can read the manual and give a rating. (Sorry.) I still have to drag out the manual to my serger when I have issues with tension, and I have had that machine for fifteen years. You learn something new every day.

It is very light weight. Good for classes. I absolutely love the ease of use and beautiful stitches. For making garments, and window treatments, no problem. I have sewn through layers of denim with ease. The only problem I have encountered was with two layers of very thick terry cloth and a layer of piping between. Even the old Singer could not handle that.

I was afraid it would be flimsy and have a difficult time with the fabrics I use, but it was a champ. The additional flat surface table is quite handy, and I am pleased that this came with a hard plastic cover that allows the machine to be carried easily.

The decorative stitches are fun, but it did take a bit of time to tweak my sewing style to the computerized system. Each piece I make on it gets better and better.

This machine is actually getting me more interested in other sewing crafts, I am going to take a class on quilting and this will be my machine I’ll use. I haven’t had any problems with it, I’ve only used it three times but so far nothing has gone wrong and it is pretty easy to understand. The manual shows you how to thread the machine and how to wind a bobbin but also there are pictures and numbers on the machine to help you figure it out.

There are so many different stitches you can choose from and it comes with many different feet and shows you what foot to use for what stitch, very nice and helpful. I don’t have to thread the needle myself because it comes with a built in threader which is really nice and the bobbin so simple to wind and install.

I recommend this sewing machine because I am just tickled pink with it.

The instruction book is fairly easy to understand and the price of this machine I thought was reasonable also. If you buy it, I don’t think you will regret it and I hope you will have as much fun with it as I have with mine!

So amazing for the money! Perfect for the wheelchair sewer!!

While Richard’s name is listed as the reviewer, I am his wife Jane. I am a wheelchair bound quad who loved to sew. This machine has an optional foot pedal- which means I can sew by pushing a button and having both hands free to deal with the fabric. That would be enough to make me rave, but there’s more.

The push button stich choice is easy and fabulous. The stiches are beautiful. The machine is easy to thread. The extras, like a choice of needle position for any stitch, are things you never thought you needed but once you use them you don’t ever want to be without.

I could not find the optional foot pedal feature on machines that were far more expensive- in fact this machine has become much more cost friendly. This machine is a great great buy!

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS MACHINE!

This is a beautiful sewing machine with lovely features, but if it doesn’t work, what good is it? I took a chance and bought this machine, hoping I wouldn’t get a lemon like the ones described in the reviews that mentioned the thread tangling in the bobbin.

After reading the instructions and winding the bobbin (which was very easy), I threaded the machine, upper and lower, according to the instructions (again, very easily done) and sewed a few straight lines on a test piece of fabric. It worked beautifully. I then inserted my very light-weight quilting piece (2 pieces of light cotton fabric with light batting in between) and then started to sew a straight line on the quilt. It worked great for about 2 feet and then it tangled into a huge mess in the bobbin thread and gave me an E-6 error message (tangled thread–duh!). I got it untangled, reinserted my quilt, and it promptly jammed again with the bobbin thread creating a mass of thread. I spent several hours trying to get the machine to work again on the test fabric and it did the same thing, over and over. I tried rethreading it again, upper and lower, several times, along with adjusting the tension in several ways. The machine never sewed another stitch.

I am very disappointed in this machine and I am returning it to Amazon. I strongly suggest that no one else waste their time and money on this machine.

    So far…so good…make that great.

Easy to use right out of the box. Would definitely recommend this machine. Researched quite a few prior to purchase and this one is a winner. Great price for all the features.

Haven’t used a machine in years and was able to do a blind hem with only one practice round. Also used the overcast stitch to finish a knit shirt. Have repaired denim and heavy cotton towels.

Minor complaint…still can’t figure out the automatic needle threader. The 1/4″ quilting foot was not included. Everything else as described.

    Very happy with purchase.

    good bargain – nice machine

I wanted a mid-range sewing machine with some flexibility, and this is the machine. I sews quickly and flawlessly, and is super easy to learn. It seems well made, and very intuitive to learn. I love the computerized stitch selection – so easy to change stitch length and width. I’ve had no problems with winding the bobbin as in previous Singer machines. I love the fact that it comes with a quilting table and a case, too, what a deal. It seems to me to be a good, basic machine that would be great for a beginner or intermediate sewer. I’ve made several purses since I bought this machine, and they stitched up very well. Good selection of presser feet with this machine, as well. Easy to thread and easy to wind the bobbin. The bobbins are readily available everywhere, so I bought a dozen for $2 so that I could keep plenty wound and ready to go. This machine is very light and easy to carry around – that’s a big plus for someone like me who has to sew at the kitchen table. I could have rated the machine 5 stars, but haven’t had it long enough to really have super deep feelings about it, so far I’d just say it seems to be a good mid-range machine and I would recommend it. My other machines have been an expensive Singer (nothing but trouble), a budget Brother, and a Baby Lock Serger.

Couldn’t be happier! Perfect for complete novice!

I purchased this machine less than a month ago. Never stitched anything in my life, not even a button. Before I made my purchase, I did a good bit of research. I was looking for an item that was “middle of the road”. Nothing too fancy, and yet, simple to use with enough features to last me a long time. This was it!

It has plenty of stitch options.

It comes with ALL the accessories that you need: different types of feet, a quilting table, etc.. You can buy additional accessories separately, but most of the ones you would want come with the machine, so there’s no added expense there.

It uses standard size bobbins that you can buy in any sewing/crafts store.

The manual is very clearly written and walks you through everything you need to know to use your machine to it’s fullest. It even comes with a quick reference guide to get started.

The machine itself is very easy to use. I don’t know anything about sewing and found it simple and user friendly.

It has lots of little cool features like a fast bobbin winder, built in little cutting implements for thread so that you’re not constantly grabbing for scissors as you thread the machine or remove the piece your working on.

I couldn’t be happier with this purchase, and I hope you find this review useful when you’re looking for your perfect sewing machine.
